A Ghost in the Mirror
03:27
|
|||
What of the ghosts that you stayed the night up with?
And of the ghosts in the mirror?
What of the ghosts in every crease in your skin?
We'll say "goodbye" to them next year
I'm disconnecting.
I stole the light
and I used it to burn the house I died in.
I stole the light
and I used it to find a way back home to you.
I jump the gate,
lick my wounds,
I burn the bridge,
and I'm gone.
I stole the light.

House on Stotlar Road

Where did you go?
I got lost somewhere between
the place I am now and the place where I'm supposed to be
Down the hall,
her footsteps fall like green berets
getting picked off by a sniper in the trees.
You're too drunk to drive me home.
And I'm just way too sober to feel so alone.
Where did you go?
I got lost inside a crowd
of the people who I think I used to know.
In case I'm still alive
by the time you hear this song,
I still live in the house on Stotlar Road.

Gertie held her hand out
one thousand feet above
I was at the bottom of the well.
Climbing up to where she was
took such a long, long time
By the time that I could see her, she was saving someone else
The sunlight made its way
into the grave that was my life
and I could hear her singing from outside
Climbing up to where she was
I caught a single word
By the time that I could see her, I was sure it was "goodbye".

Gertie held her hand out one thousand feet above
I was at the bottom of the well.
Climbing up to where she was took such a long, long time
by the time that I could see her, she was saving someone else.
The light of burning chances made a picture, clear and plain
and lit her shape against the painted sky.
To punctuate the signing over of my final claim,
I shouted out a message to her, "Gertie, don't you cry."
It was just a fantasy
that we'd live the life we please.
It was never going to be.
The sunlight made it's way into the grave that was my life,
and I could hear her singing from outside.
Climbing up to where she was, I caught a single word.
By the time that I could see her, I was sure it was "goodbye".

Lobotomy

I—I used to be crazy
but now I think I'm doing okay
I—used to act like a looney
but the light in my window shows me the way
So, I've got a steady girlfriend
and a 4.0 GPA
Yeah, I've got some new friends
and this is the end
of the guy that I used to be
so please let me out of this place
I—I used to be crazy
but crazy doesn't sell anymore
I—used to wrestle with devils
but now I sweep them out the back door
So, I've got a steady girlfriend
and a 4.0 GPA
Yeah, I've got some new friends
and this is the end
of the guy that I used to be
so please let me out of this place

I don't know if it's my life
I don't know if it's my memory
but something within, or without
isn't nearly as good as it used to be
I tried to go back home
They didn't want me back
They said that on my sleeve, I wear a heart attack.
It was the realest thing
until I made it bad
I didn't realize we'd entered a blood pact.
